Fear separates us from God.
How do we fight fear? There is only one emotion strong enough to fight and win over fear, and that is Love. God's love for us, our allowing ourselves to let that light shine before others so that they see, and feel, that great love.
How do we love others? How do we let that light shine through us, that others might see the good works and glorify God?
This, THIS, my friends, is where works come in. When we love, truly love God and people, we can do works through that love. And then, because we don't have to feel the fear that so often arises, when we can love others, we can forgive them; we can feel compassion for the problems that they are having, that might cause them to fear and to act unkindly. We can do deeds out of love, not out of fear that someone might judge us if we do not. We can do deeds out of love, not out of that place of "I should do this." We can do deeds free of any feeling of resentment. We can pray for others clearly and easily, for their deepest needs to be fulfilled through God.
[Galatians 5:22-26, TLB] But when the Holy Spirit controls our lives he will produce this kind of fruit in us: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control; and here there is no conflict with Jewish laws. Those who belong to Christ have nailed their natural evil desires to his cross and crucified them there. If we are living now by the Holy Spirit’s power, let us follow the Holy Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives. Then we won’t need to look for honors and popularity, which lead to jealousy and hard feelings.
[Matthew 5:16, NIV] In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
[James 2:14-16, TLB] Dear brothers, what’s the use of saying that you have faith and are Christians if you aren’t proving it by helping others? Will that kind of faith save anyone? If you have a friend who is in need of food and clothing, and you say to him, “Well, good-bye and God bless you; stay warm and eat hearty,” and then don’t give him clothes or food, what good does that do?
