Back and forth, back and forth
Like the old grandfather clock from my childhood.
Slowly, slowly ponderously moving
From despair to joy and back again.
From fear to trust and back again...
Back and forth, back and forth
Yet in the middle a calmness overtakes me
Briefly
Like the eye of the storm
Back and forth more slowly
As the energy of the maelstrom
Of my feelings
Is absorbed
In my new knowledge
In my feelings of being loved
Compassionately, as a person,
And ability to love
Self, others, God.
Eventually
I will stand still in that calmness
I will be still and know that He is God.
