Be.
Just be.
Be you.
Be you yourself.
Breathe in being.
Be.
Be still.
Still your busy hands,
Your servant feet,
Still your busy mind.
Fretting about what cannot be changed.
Fretting about what cannot be done or undone.
For who, by fretting, can add even one hour to his life? [1]
Sit quietly and wait.
Wait.
Be still.
Be still and know.
How do you know?
Do you know in your heart?
Do you know in your mind?
Do you know in your soul,
The centermost part of your being?
Do you know in your body somehow?
Just KNOW.
With all your heart and all your soul and all your strength. [2]
Be still and know.
Be still and know that I AM. [3]
The Great I AM.
I AM who I AM.
The Holiest of Holies
Tread, unshod, kneeling, prostrate,
The burning bush burns eternally
And is never consumed.
The ashes we heap upon our heads
The ashes from the past,
In pain from the past,
That it should forever resound angrily
In the dark corridors of our minds,
In pain from fear of the future,
That we should make the same wrong decisions
Over and over again--
Those ashes are not from the burning bush,
But of our own doing,
Our own heaping upon our own heads
Not from the Great I AM,
Who only asks us to
Love Him and
Love others. [4]
Not from the Great I AM,
Who has plans for us, [5]
Who has known us,
Known our hearts [6]
Before we were even in the womb…
Not from Him, these ashes
But from our human minds.
Be still and know that I AM.
Be still and know
That I AM GOD [7]
The one and only LORD GOD.
Whose heart yearns toward us,
Never away,
Like the father of the prodigal son, [8]
Running—Running, mind you!
Not sauntering, not casually walking,
Not waiting upon His dignity,
But RUNNING
To catch up this son,
Who was lost and now is found.
As soon as the son turned his thoughts to his Father,
His Father was waiting eagerly
With a huge welcoming hug,
With clean, fresh, sweet-smelling clothes
And delicious food
And bathing and even the jewelry
That his son was no longer entitled to wear.
Waiting eagerly for his wayward son
To turn back—JUST to turn back—toward Him.
Not making the wayward boy
Walk a walk of shame
Not waiting for him to finish
His confession and his sorrow,
Not waiting, but running toward him, eagerly.
Be still and know that I AM GOD.
He who loves.
He who wants us to love.
As He loves us.
Be still and know that I AM GOD.
Be still and know that I AM.
Be still and know.
Be still.
Be.
Amen.
