Whether it's the freedom a nation gains through war, the freedom from an unhealthy relationship, or the upper-story freedom that God gives us, freedom does have its price. In the long run, the price is worth it, but only if we take advantage of the freedom that we gain. Freedom to feel whatever we are feeling, to say whatever needs to be said, to believe whatever we believe. If we reject those advantages, we reject the sacrifice of those who paid the price.
One of the many things that freedom gives us is the ability to look at our past and see the truth for what it is. To understand why we react the way we do and to see the truth in all of our relationships--with our family, our friends, our work, our pastimes, and our Lord. To heal our past, where healing is needed.
In Every Waking Moment, Chris Fabry said, "What I’m calling you to do is to see reality. Not how things might be or could be, but how they are. This is the baseline we work from. And when you embrace that, not requiring change but accepting where you are, where she is, then wonderful things can happen. Your heart can rest. You won’t feel guilty about what you’ve done or haven’t done. You can simply love her.”
One of the great things that God does for us is accepting us for where we are, and still loving us with all His heart.
Seeing reality is hard. But when you are willing to see reality, you end up with freedom.
Jesus said, "Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:32).
